ERICEIRA IS THE MECCA OF PORTUGUESE SURFING
Due to its geographical position, Ericeira is blessed with some seriously sweet swells throughout most of the year. There are all-together around 20 know spots, but the whole coast is teaming with unknown spots begging to be found.
LESSON SCHEDULE
This schedule should be an introduction for you:
Surfing is natural sport; therefore there could be a change in the sequence of events. The theory lessons will be held every day, ecxept for one day off.
The lessons in the surf and on the beach are incumbent upon the surf instructor and upon your personal skill level (beginner or intermediate).
We will sort out an alternative program with you, if the conditions do not allow going in the water. The beginners will be taught the basics of surfing in the very first week (like for example from the first contact with waves up to a proper take off in the white wash, etc.). We will push intermediate levels to improve their skills, as well as correct their mistakes and push them to their next personal level. This goes for the (optional) second week, as well. 1st week theory lessons:
- 1st day morning: knowing your equipment, weather, safety
- 2nd day morning: formation of swell, code of conduct in the surf
- afternoon: video analyses
- 3rd day morning: formation and types of surf
- afternoon: duck diving techniques
- 4th day morning: tides
- afternoon: video analyses
- 5th day morning: board shapes, ding repair, visit a shaper
- 1st day morning: history of the sport of surfing

- afternoon: video analyses
- 3rd day morning or afternoon: check out the waves in the area

You can use all the equipment outside of the surf lessons in the second week.
DIE SURFSPOTS
The Campsite
Coxos
Coxos is a premium spot; everyone gets his quality barrels here. It does get crowded and you have to respect the locals!! This heavy Pointbreak is definitely the jewel of all the spots in Portugal, but only suitable for good surfers.
Matadouro
Another good Right-hander, with an easy paddle-out. This spots is always a good option, when other Pointbreaks are too crowded. Suits every skill level.
Pedra Branca
Next to the campsite is a quality lefthander; hollow, fast and powerful it is sometimes called the Portuguese Pipeline. Gets crowded with Bodyboarder and tube specialists.
Praia Norte & Praia Peixe
Another heavy right-hand Point that holds large surf. Rarely surfed, only Martin and his buddies are always seen out there. This spot can also be surfed when the waves are small, so it's a good spot for everyone. But be aware when the surf get bigger.
This spot used to be the only option, when everywhere was maxing out. Unfortunately the wave quality suffered due to a little concrete construction. But it still can have its day.
Ribeira
The most popular wave in the area has several peaks that work differently depending on tide and swell direction. A long wave with good sections and sometimes the sections connect and you can have really long rides. Unfortunately it gets very crowded in summer.
Sao Juliao
Another great Beachbreak! When it is on it can be referred to any Beachbreak in France; powerful, lots of barrels and several peaks, but also perfect for beginners. This is our Homespot!!
Foz d'Lizandro
A great Beachbreak that holds up. It can get crowded in summer, but the vibe in the water is always friendly and relaxed. Only the north wind can spoil the fun, when it's blowing to strong.
